Harold Bialsky on Vocational Assessments

A Vocational Assessment provides objective findings as to how an injury affects a person’s ability to work and earn a living, following an injury. The development of the Vocational Assessment, much like the Life Care Plan, includes collaboration and communication with the client, family, when available, medical providers. A review of the relevant medical data, employment records, and when applicable, educational records, as well as the client interview, is utilized to determine transferable skills and reach an opinion as to the disabled person’s post-injury employability and earning capacity.

A Careful, Consistent Method

Harold begins with a thorough review of medical records, then conducts in-depth interviews focused on a person’s education, career history, job duties, and the critical demands that determine employability. When cognitive or physical limitations make self-reporting incomplete, he supplements with collateral interviews from family or colleagues.

His assessments consider not only current capacity but also the interaction of disability with aging — recognizing how today’s abilities may change over 10, 20, or 30 years. The final evaluation gives attorneys and courts a clear, objective picture of what work, if any, is possible, and what earnings can be reasonably expected over time on behalf of the injured individual. Conclusions and opinions on employability and determination of future earnings capacity are clearly stated and supported in both plaintiff and defense cases.
