Traumatic Brain Injury Expertise

For more than three decades, Harold has helped the ladies and gentlemen of juries and judges understand how traumatic brain injuries (TBI) impact the daily life for these individuals, as well as their ability to sustain employability.

Life Care Plans That Anticipate Real Needs

Using a “day-in-the-life” approach, Harold evaluates how TBIs affect self-care, home management, community access, and independence. He incorporates medical recommendations, consults with treating physicians when available, and accounts for the long-term convergence of disability with aging. When someone has a brain injury and may not fully grasp their deficits, he will conduct an interview with family members, or whoever knew them before and after the injury to get the complete picture. The resulting Life Care Plans anticipate evolving needs — from medical care and therapies to equipment and home assistance — and reflect the practical realities of living with a brain injury.

Vocational Assessments in Traumatic Brain Injury Cases

Harold’s Vocational Assessments focus on the critical demands of past and potential jobs — the factors that determine whether a person can sustain employment. He reviews medical records, interviews the individual, and, when needed, conducts collateral interviews with family members, or whoever knew them before and after the injury, to determine how cognitive and functional deficits affect employability. In court, he explains these findings in straightforward terms, giving judges and the ladies and gentleman of juries a clear view of future work options and earning capacity.

Linking Care Needs and Employability

Because independence and employment are closely linked, Harold considers the overlap between Life Care Planning and Vocational Assessment. A person’s ability to succeed on the job often depends on reliable routines at home, as well as strategies that support independence at work due to cognitive limitations. Harold’s direct experience with TBI rehabilitation, including job development and job coaching, gives him a grounded understanding of both sides of home and work independence.
